Hurricane Donation Drive

The Park Slope Chamber of Commerce is pleased to act as a drop off and distribution site for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. A few things are happening this week: Some displaced children will be returning to school and unfortunately another storm is predicted , in addition to typical donations a priority should be:
The Red Hook Initiative is also coordinating relief and support efforts. They can be contacted at 718-858-6782, and their office is at 767 Hicks Street.
There’s an effort underway to helo clean up Sheepshead Bay.
To donate food and flashlights to the Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, contact them at 917-975-5623. To help transport donated items to shelters in The Rockaways and South Brooklyn, contact councilmember Steve Levin’s office at 718-875-5200.
NYC Service has been a great resource for those looking to help out. If you email your name and borough to nycservice@cityhall.nyc.gov, they’ll be in touch.
Over at Congregation Beth Elohim, they’re looking for volunteers to help prepare food to be brought to the armory. Candles, batteries, flashlights, water, and non-perishables for Red Hook shelters are also being collected there.
Prospect Park’s third annual Walk-a-Thon is Saturday at 9 AM. All funds raised will go towards repairing the park, which lost over 300 trees.
To donate blood, drop by Methodist Hospital at the times specified in the link
The Red Cross is also looking for volunteers.
